Magic Mouth In the Sun Sayeth The Slack

I don't know any more about slack, or what it is, or where it comes from, than you do. I'm similarly mystified by the magic mouth. I picture this classic rendition of a magic mouth spouting off the lyrics from the Car's song "Gimme Some Slack."

Like I said, I don't know as much about slack as I used to, but like Supreme Court justice Potter Stewart, I know it when I don't see it. 

The Cars and their quirky sound kind of blew me away as an adolescent. I have adult friends now who want to start a Dungeons and Dragons group, including a maestro Dungeon Master. Isn't it amazing how things come around and around? Maybe sometimes you were always right the first time.

Buy Submerged Structure by Thomas L. Vaultonburg

Submerged Structure is the 4th book by Outsider Poet Thomas L. Vaultonburg. It is a meditation on his struggle with Schizoid Personality Disorder. It was published by Zombie Logic Press in 2012. The photo on the cover was taken by his very good friend Ryan Davis, and is from a rest stop between Byron and Oregon, Illinois warning of a concrete dock that had fallen from the shore and could no longer be seen. The sign has since been removed.

I grew up driving past that sign quite frequently, and each time I passed it the words seemed to become more and more personal to me. I would often wonder how many signs like this in the entire world there were. Not many I concluded. Maybe not even any. Maybe it's the only one in the entire world. What lurks beneath the water there? I've never known. But to me it seemed like a perfect metaphore for those of us who suffer from Schizoid Personality Disorder. Except in our case there's no sign we can plant in the ground to warn others. Even if there were it would be virtually impossible to explain that some part of us has broken off and submerged deep inside our psyche, and is either just gone or nearly impossible to get to. Concave Buddha by Thomas L. Vaultonburg

I remember the morning I received a letter from legendary surrealist artist and underground publisher Bradley Lastname that he was going to publish my first book. My only problem was he wanted a book of 60 pages and I had sent him only 30 pages. Those were all the poems I had written in my lifetime that I thought were even passingly deserving of being published. But he insisted on doing a full-length book and encouraged me, in true dadaist style, to just write the rest of the pages as quickly as possible. So I did. I wrote the second half of my first book in the next two weeks and much to the chagrin of many veteran small press poets I had my first book at 21, consisting mainly of poems I had written as a teenager. On the cover is a work by the artist Joel-Peter Witkin.
