The Price of a Day

Things don't cost what they used to. And not necessarily just in monetary terms. There are different hidden costs associated with modern life that would not even have been considered in the past. It costs more to get through a day. In every way imaginable. I'd like to work on this poem concept right here, get it off the page.

The Price of a Day

Effective January 1st the Dept. of Sunken Costs announces the new price of everything

a pint of your blood

a second mortgage on your credulity

an extra snout or two in your trough

a few extra eyes on your lovemaking

a sin tax on belief

poets pay double

scientists pay triple

criminals and churches still tax free

Criminals and churches still tax free
