Outsider Poet Visits The Lafayette Blacksmith Bar In New Orleans

Just went through a rather grueling couple of months, which culminated in a vacation to New Orleans and the book release party for The Blood Dark Sea, which I had to host and perform as Jesus Correa in.

Now all of that is behind me, and the last thing that is wearing on me is I did an Echocardiogram last Tuesday after my cardiologists ordered it nearly two months ago and I waited for insurance approval, and now I'm awaiting those results. I hope they will be casual about it and just use the online medical chart to say everything is fine, but until that happens there's really no way to know.

All of my book projects are wrapped up, and all I have is one more dental procedure in terms of my health, and ongoi g fitness and good nutrition, so maybe I can spend the next little while working on some of my goofy personal projects that only I know or care about, like Shadmock, Ubermenscher, Hall of Bad Dudes, Momus Shrugged, not quite blank, The Outsider Poetry Slam League of America, Things of the Dead, or even one of my own books.

This is poet Thomas L. Vaultonburg standing outside the door of the Lafayette Blacksmith Shop Shop Bar in New Orleans. They claim it is the oldest bar in America.

Finally got an air conditioner into the window at the apartment, now I am worrying that it will fall out. Probably won't have a lot to say about Outlaw Poetry now that I wrapped up the last book.

The Old Hermit Speaks of Poetry

The Old Hermit Speaks of Poetry

When my poems escaped me
Like ducks from a broken pen,
I did not chase them like the
Young poets from the village.
Instead, I finished my bottle of wine,
And wandered the hills drunken
And free from care,
Where I discovered my poems
Hiding in the rocks and trees,
And a brook singing a song
About a foolish old poet
Looking for his lost poems.

Shiitake by Thomas L. Vaultonburg

This is another Tiny Drawing Poem we'll be showing at Spring Art Scene. Last year people were buying them right off the walls.

Another Poem From Flesh Wounds

Another poem from my book, Flesh Wounds.

   Collected

   Say something interesting.
   Come to our dinner party
   And insult our queer friends.
   Please stay in our basement
   And pee in our sink.

   You’re our very first poet.
   We were hoping for PP
   But we heard some nice
   Things about you, too.

   Say something outrageous.
   Eat light bulbs and peanut
   Butter and be feral and
   Nasty and awful to us.

   You’re a real poet.

Come out on the town with us
   And cause a scene.
   Drink enough for us all
And go to jail for us all.

   Please get us some
   Good drugs. Don’t forget
   To write nice things
   About us.

   You don’t mind,
   Do you?

Buy Submerged Structure by Thomas L. Vaultonburg

Submerged Structure is the 4th book by Outsider Poet Thomas L. Vaultonburg. It is a meditation on his struggle with Schizoid Personality Disorder. It was published by Zombie Logic Press in 2012. The photo on the cover was taken by his very good friend Ryan Davis, and is from a rest stop between Byron and Oregon, Illinois warning of a concrete dock that had fallen from the shore and could no longer be seen. The sign has since been removed.

Submerged Structure By Thomas L. Vaultonburg
$15.00

"There's a road sign, or was as of three years ago when the picture on the cover of the book was taken, between Byron and Oregon Illinois. The sign reads Submerged Structure, warning those who might be tempted to dive in to the water of the Rock River that something unseen is resident beneath the murky water. I grew up driving past that sign quite frequently, and each time I passed it the words seemed to become more and more personal to me. I would often wonder how many signs like this in the entire world there were. Not many I concluded. Maybe not even any. Maybe it's the only one in the entire world. What lurks beneath the water there? I've never known. But to me it seemed like a perfect metaphore for those of us who suffer from Schizoid Personality Disorder. Except in our case there's no sign we can plant in the ground to warn others. Even if there were it would be virtually impossible to explain that some part of us has broken off and submerged deep inside our psyche, and is either just gone or nearly impossible to get to. Nearly impossible." -Thomas L. Vaultonburg

Concave Buddha by Thomas L. Vaultonburg

I remember the morning I received a letter from legendary surrealist artist and underground publisher Bradley Lastname that he was going to publish my first book. My only problem was he wanted a book of 60 pages and I had sent him only 30 pages. Those were all the poems I had written in my lifetime that I thought were even passingly deserving of being published. But he insisted on doing a full-length book and encouraged me, in true dadaist style, to just write the rest of the pages as quickly as possible. So I did. I wrote the second half of my first book in the next two weeks and much to the chagrin of many veteran small press poets I had my first book at 21, consisting mainly of poems I had written as a teenager. On the cover is a work by the artist Joel-Peter Witkin
